Its name might sound a little daunting, but the demand for Microneedling is on the rise across the USA and especially in San Diego.
Estheticians and doctors alike claim that this treatment is a better way to do a facial. Microneedling is an amazing and effective treatment for acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, and overall rejuvenated skin. Numerous patients have already experienced the restorative results of this non-ablative procedure.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Over time, repeated muscle movement and sun exposure cause our skin to age visibly. Collagen is lost, and elasticity diminishes. Fortunately, aesthetic practices have discovered a quick, yet highly effective way to combat fine lines and wrinkles before they appear – Microneedling!
Dr. Sheila Nazarian, a Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon, explains, “You’re building collagen and thickening the skin, so instead of looking good for a few days after your traditional facial, your skin is smooth and radiant for much longer.”
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, uses a medical-grade, an electric dermal pen of 12 disposable microneedles. The device punctures the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. These micro-injuries recruit the body’s natural collagen to regenerate new skin cells. The patient is left with fresh, plump skin and decreased fine lines and wrinkles.
Additional benefits of Microneedling include improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Recent studies have demonstrated success using mmicro needlingtreatments to improve scar appearance and reduce wrinkles
What should I expect after the procedure?
Initial results post-treatment are temporary redness, and peeling or flaking of skin. This could last for a couple of days as the old layer of skin begins to shed. After about two weeks, the old skin is gone, and new youthful skin emerges to surface.
To achieve the best results, a minimum of 4 treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart is highly recommended.
NEEDLES, Does it hurt?
Some patients are apprehensive about the procedure due to the thought of several tiny needles perforating the skin, but there is no question that the results are phenomenal.
Numbing cream is applied to the entire face before any microneedling is performed. More sensitive areas include the forehead and upper lip area.
The feeling is often described as rubbing sandpaper across the face, although it is more uncomfortable rather than painful. Nevertheless, patients are more than satisfied with the long-lasting, and immediately, visible results of Microneedling.
The ultimate goal of this procedure is to not only treat the pre-existing wrinkles and scars but to penetrate below the surface before new wrinkles form. In turn, aged skin is replaced by healthier, renewed skin. Regular microneedling treatments several times per year can dramatically improve not only the appearance of your skin but more importantly, the overall health of your skin.
