PRP Injections Austin

Though a relatively new treatment, many cosmetic professionals are utilizing platelet-rich plasma injections. At SDBotox in Austin, we use PRP as a cosmetic treatment for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. The injection contains stem cells and growth-rich platelets from the patient’s own plasma. Used locally, it accelerates your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.

PRP therapy is used to treat:

Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, under-eyes, cheeks and chin
Thinning hair and balding areas on the head

What is PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is an innovative, non-surgical procedure that promotes hair growth and rejuvenates the skin.

Regenerative PRP therapy entails using a person’s cells to stimulate their body’s healing process. Our blood plasma includes naturally occurring active growth elements which can promote healing. Platelet-rich plasma injections stimulate that healing process. Drawing a few tubes of the patient’s blood and processing it in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and create a platelet concentration above normal. Many fields of medicine are excited by this new way of treating patients.

Since we take plasma from the patient’s own blood, there are no issues with compatibility and rejection.

PRP Injections Austin FAQs

Your provider injects the plasma in multiple small doses. Injections are placed directly into the scalp with a small needle. The direct injection allows the growth elements within the blood cells to naturally stimulate hair growth in the immediate area.

Plasma is immunologically unbiased. As such, it poses a minimal risk of an allergic reaction or other symptoms of rejection since the plasma comes from the patient’s own blood.

Many patients experience a brief period of inflammation for a few hours after the treatment.

Swelling is rare and usually only occurs on the day following treatment, around the eye and forehead areas.

Some patients experience uncomfortable and sometimes painful sensations when treatment is done under topical anesthesia. If this concerns you, talk to your doctor about additional options.

Patients notice younger-looking skin after PRP injections. PRP can reduce wrinkles, plump up sagging skin, improve one’s complexion, and diminish acne scars. You may see immediate results from your PRP therapy for facial rejuvenation, but the full effects will take a few days or weeks to become visible. PRP needs time to activate its regenerative properties under the skin. Patients who have received this therapy are usually pleased with the volume increase and skin tightness they see afterward.

PRP hair restoration treatments effectively slow down hair loss in approximately 70% of patients treated. Improvements include:

The appearance of a fuller head of hair
Fine hair becoming thicker
Reduction in shedding hair
