About Shelter to Soldier

Shelter to Soldier is a San Diego-based nonprofit that transforms the lives of both rescue dogs and post-9/11 veterans. Every day, countless shelter dogs face the heartbreaking reality of euthanasia due to overcrowding and lack of resources. At the same time, many veterans return from service struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other challenges that make reintegration into civilian life difficult.

Shelter to Soldier bridges this gap by identifying suitable rescue dogs, providing them with extensive training, and pairing them with veterans in need of emotional and physical support. These highly trained service dogs offer companionship, stability, and a renewed sense of purpose to the veterans they serve. Each rescue dog costs approximately $18,000 to fully train, covering medical care, food, housing, and extensive service training to meet the needs of their veteran partners.
